How to schedule your free local pickup
1. Tell us about your car and where it’s parked
Call Drive Forward or use our online form with your contact details, vehicle info, and exact Hartford-area location. Let us know if it’s in a driveway, garage, street spot, or apartment lot in places like Downtown Hartford, West End, or East Hartford, and whether it runs. This helps us match you with the right local towing partner and equipment.
2. Choose a convenient Hartford pickup window
We’ll confirm a pickup day and time window that works for you. In most of Hartford, West Hartford, East Hartford, and nearby suburbs like Newington, Manchester, and Bloomfield, pickups are typically scheduled within a few business days. We’ll discuss any street-parking rules, loading zones, or tight streets so the driver knows what to expect and can plan the route.
3. Prepare the title, keys, and access
Before pickup, remove personal items and plates if you prefer, and locate your Connecticut title. We’ll explain exactly how to sign it. On the day, you can be present or leave the title and keys in the agreed secure spot (for example, with building security in Downtown or tucked in the glovebox). Make sure the vehicle is accessible for a flatbed or tow truck.
4. We tow your car for $0, running or not
A local Hartford-area tow operator arrives in the agreed window, loads your car, and takes the title/keys. There is no towing charge to you — the cost is covered from the charity’s eventual sale proceeds, and you are never billed back. Even non-running, damaged, or older vehicles in the Hartford Metro and nearby towns are welcome.
5. Receive your tax receipt and finish your donation
After pickup, your vehicle is sold and the proceeds support services for people who are blind or visually impaired. Drive Forward mails you a tax receipt. Most donors receive at least a $500 tax-deduction receipt; if the sale exceeds $500, you’ll also get the IRS Form 1098-C information needed for your federal taxes. Local pickup gotchas
Flatbed access on tight Hartford streets
Tip: Some Hartford neighborhoods like Frog Hollow, South Green, or parts of the West End have narrow streets, tight corners, or cars parked bumper to bumper. If possible, park your vehicle in a driveway, lot, or a wider side street. Let us know about one-way streets, steep driveways, or low branches so we can send the right truck and avoid rescheduling.

Tip: If you’re outside the core Hartford Metro — for example in Canton, Marlborough, Suffield, or other rural areas — it may take an extra day or two to route a tow. We batch pickups to keep costs low for the charity. Share any unpaved driveways, seasonal road closures, or difficult access so we can plan the right truck and realistic timing.
If at-home pickup is tricky
If your driveway, street, or garage makes at-home pickup difficult, we can often arrange alternatives. Some donors in tight Downtown Hartford streets or complex West Hartford condo lots choose to move the vehicle to a nearby friend’s driveway or a more accessible lot before the tow. In a few cases, we may schedule pickup from a local repair shop or storage facility where the car is already located. If none of those work, talk with us about timing; a different time of day or day of the week can sometimes solve access issues in busy Hartford neighborhoods.
